ROCKWALL (CBSDFW.COM) – A safety alert for parents — Rockwall police are looking for a man who they say tried to lure a girl away from Utley Middle School.
According to investigators, it was shortly after classes let out that the man tried to lure the 13-year-old on a corner near the school.
Officers say the attempted abduction happened Wednesday afternoon. A mom called police at 4:20 p.m. to report that a man approached her daughter and tried to get her into his car. But the man drove away quickly after seeing a motorcycle police officer nearby.
The teenager said the man was driving an older, silver-colored, compact four-door car with the rear windows tinted.
The incident was detailed on the Rockwall Police Department’s Facebook page has already been shared more than 400 times.
“It really worries me, because there’s just a lot — excuse me — but a lot of sick people out there,” said grandmother Shirley Chambliss, who was dropping her 12-year-old granddaughter at school on Friday morning.
Police say they’re looking into the case with help from the school district. Meanwhile, extra patrol officers have been added to area school zones on Friday. “The circumstances of this contact, according to the girl, caused enough suspicion in her to make it feel like he might have ill intentions,” said Sgt. Aaron McGrew with the Rockwall Police Department. “That’s why we’re taking it so seriously.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Rockwall Police Department at 972-771-7721.
